Brennan (Emily Deschanel) makes an uncomfortable discovery in the first of these new sneak peek clips from Bones’ April 28 installment.

The episode, “The Monster in the Closet,” sees the team linking the remains of a conscientious social worker to that of a missing high school principal, where both bodies appear to have been treated in a similar manner — post mortem.

For Brennan however, the disturbing treatment of the victims takes second place to the guilt she feels when she learns the second victim was murdered in an identical way to the first, and that first body is an unsolved limbo case dating back to the time she and Booth left their jobs for a chance at a safer life.

Could Brennan have prevented this second murder? The question will continue to gnaw at her conscience in episodes to come.

“The Monster in the Closet” episode of Bones airs Thursday April 28 on FOX.
