DESIGNATED SURVIVOR: Kirkman Struggles to Hold His Presidency & His Country Together in “The First Day”

Newly appointed President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) struggles to hold both his presidency and his country together in the wake of a horrifying terrorist attack in Designated Survivor’s second episode.

The new series, premiering Sept. 21 stars Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member who is suddenly appointed President of the United States after a catastrophic attack on the U.S. Capitol during the State of the Union address.

Airing Wednesday Sept. 28, the series’ second outing, “The First Day,” will see, just hours following the attack on the Capitol, President Kirkman stepping into his role as Commander-in-Chief in the midst of chaos and confusion.

But facing dangerous new challenges and adversaries, Kirman struggles to hold a country together that is on the brink of falling apart.

Meanwhile, as he continues to bear murmurs of dissent from within his own ranks, Kirkman learns the shocking news that he wasn’t the only designated survivor.

“The First Day” episode of Designated Survivor airs Wednesday Sept. 28 on ABC.

Designated Survivor stars Kiefer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, Natascha McElhone as Alex Kirkman, Adan Canto as Aaron Shore, Italia Ricci as Emily Rhodes, LaMonica Garrett as Mike Ritter with Kal Penn as Seth Wright and Maggie Q as Hannah Wells.

Guest starring in “The First Day” is Virginia Madsen.

“The First Day,” was written by Jon Harmon Feldman and David Guggenheim. Brad Turner is the director.
