Richard Webber and Owen Hunt don’t quite see eye to eye in this exclusive new sneak peek clip from Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomy.

However the way they view their patient may just turn out to be what saves his life.

Picture the scene (or just watch the clip below) — two men are involved in a car crash. One, a reckless driver who sped up a freeway ramp the wrong way is responsible for the crash; the other man is an innocent victim. With no ID there is no way to identify either man, including which is “the good guy” and which is the perpetrator.

“We don’t know if this man had a family,” Webber reminds the assembled doctors struggling to save the man’s life.

“We don’t know if he was running away from something, and we don’t know if he was the good guy or the bad guy. We know nothing. What do we need to know in order to do our jobs and not simply be mechanics?”

“We’re not being mechanics!” Hunt angrily retorts, to which Webber points out “You’re treating this patient like a sack of organs on a table.”

Webber’s solution? To “play a game” in which the patient is no longer John Doe, but anyone they want.

The “The Room Where it Happens” episode of Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursday, November 10 on ABC.
