Since it was announced last year, Marvel Studios’ May 2014 movie release has been a mystery. Although there has been quite a bit of speculation as to which super hero(es) would be featured (Ant-Man? Black Panther? Dr. Strange?), until now Marvel sources have been silent about the new film. But it is now reliably rumored that the film, whose identity will be officially announced at Marvel’s Comic-Con panel in two weeks, will be The Guardians of the Galaxy, according to an article in The Hollywood Reporter.

The Guardians of the Galaxy, a group of time-traveling superheroes from the 31st century, first appeared in Marvel comics in 1969 but are not nearly as well known as Marvel’s other superhero teams such as the Avengers and the Fantastic Four.

The Guardians of the Galaxy film is expected to be written by Nicole Perdman, who previously worked on Thor along with several other Marvel movie spec projects. The film is slated for a May 16, 2014 release.
