Hermoine Granger Stronger than Harry Potter, Says Emma Watson

By on July 6, 2011

Emma Watson, known to Harry Potter fans as Hermoine Granger, has praised JK Rowling’s creation of a powerful female role model in a recent interview with Daybreak.  Watson went as far as to say Hermoine was stronger than her onscreen male counterparts Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint).

“Jo wrote this incredible female role. I think unprecedented in the fact that she is not just an equal to the boys but actually, in some respects, you can see that she’s a stronger fighter, a stronger witch,” Watson said.

“That just doesn’t happen in blockbuster movies, the women just tend to be these pretty sidekicks – Hermione isn’t that at all.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will hold its world premiere in Trafalgar Square in London tomorrow before debuting in theaters on July 15th.

Responding to a question about how she felt when filming on Deadly Hallows ended, Watson explained: “I wasn’t really feeling anything. It was when they said, ‘That’s Emma done and Rupert wrapped on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’. It just hit me and it was incredibly emotional. I cried, cried, cried, cried, cried! It was really emotional and overwhelming.”
