In a Q&A at the SXSW music and film festival in Austin, Texas this week, Avengers director Joss Whedon confirmed that work is underway for the sequel to his popular 2008 internet musical Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Whedon has stated previously that several songs and a few scenes have been written for the long-awaited sequel, but in answer to a direct question from CraveOnline on whether his next project after The Avengers would be Doctor Horrible 2, Whedon replied, “That’s the plan. We plan to be working on it this summer.” He also stated that the sequel has a full story outline ready to go.

Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion have both repeatedly expressed enthusiasm for the sequel, and are expected to return in their starring roles as Doctor Horrible and his nemesis Captain Hammer.

Can’t wait for the sequel. Will Dr. Horrible finally get the girl? What kind of evil plan will the Ph.d of horribleness think of next? Yes, these questions and more are waiting for answers that only the brilliant mind of Josh Whedon can provide. We wait in humble expectation.
