Joss Whedon’s ‘Cabin In the Woods’ Gets Friday 13th Release

By on July 25, 2011

Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods will finally see the light of day.

Written by Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) and starring Chris Helmsworth (Thor) the movie had already piqued the interest of the genre community long before a release date had been set.

Originally slated for an October 2009 release, the movie was pulled back, first because a decision was made to convert it to 3D, and then later because of MGM’s well-publicised debt crisis.

When Lionsgate Motion Picture Group announced back in April that they were taking over distribution of The Cabin in the Woods, many took the news with a pinch of salt. However, true to their word, a date of Friday 13th April 2012 has now officially been set.

The Cabin in the Woods is a twisted take on the usual cabin in the woods horror genre, featuring tags lines such as “If an old man warns you not to go there … make fun of him” and “If you hear a strange sounds outside … have sex.”

We can’t wait.
