The latest Total Recall theatrical trailer suggests the reboot will lean more towards Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 version starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone than to the original concept put forward in Phillip K. Dick’s short story ‘We Can Remember it For You Wholesale.’

Double-crossing wives, a dystopian future and even the triple-breasted prostitute make an appearance in the following two and a half minute trailer.

Interestingly, the trailer is also strongly reminiscent of another famous scifi movie, Minority Report – particularly the car chase sequences. Minority Report, initially titled Total Recall 2, was originally intended as a sequel to Verhoeven’s 1990’s Arnie version, before a long stint in development hell transformed the project to the 2002 Tom Cruise version we all know today.

Total Recall, directed by Len Wiseman, stars Colin Farrell as Doug Quaid, Kate Beckinsale as Lori, Jessica Biel as Melina and Bryan Cranston, looking somehow less intimidating with hair, as Vilos Cohaagen.

Total Recall opens across the US on August 3 2012.
