Life of Pi, the upcoming 3D fantasy adventure film from Academy Award nominated director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hulk), has released a stunningly beautiful and extremely trippy official trailer. The special effects-filled movie is based on Canadian author Yann Martel’s best-selling novel, which tells the story of a boy (named Pi) and his tiger (named Richard Parker), who survive 277 days after being shipwrecked and stranded on a lifeboat … or at least that’s the story that Pi tells his rescuers.

Check out the lovely CGI imagery in the trailer below. Life of Pi stars Suraj Sharma as Pi, along with Tobey Maguire, Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain, and Gerard Depardieu. The film is being released by 20th Century Fox on December 14, 2012.

It was an incredible book but I’m not thinking it will be that great of a movie. I’ll probably give it a try.
