Russell Crowe is in negotiations to play Superman’s father in Zack Snyder’s upcoming reboot Superman: The Man of Steel. Jor-El was originally played by Marlon Brando in Richard Donner’s 1978 version of the movie.  With production starting next month, Jor-El was one of the last roles cast. Kevin Costner is already onboard as Superman’s adoptive Daddy Mr Kent. Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Michael Shannon are also onboard. David Goyer (The Dark Knight, Flashforward) both penned the script and developed the story along with Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception).

Superman: The Man of Steel, from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, is slated for theatrical release in 2012.
