Nathan Fillion has broken his silence on co-star Stana Katic’s departure.

In a tweet to fans, Fillion thanked Katic, and praised her creation of the character of Katherine Beckett, saying “I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues.”

The full text follows:

“Castle has been one of the greatest joys of my creative life, and I hope the show continues on for years to come. Stana has been my partner all this time, and I thank her for creating the character of Beckett who will live on for all of us as one of the greatest police officers on television. I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed.”

Fillion’s statement comes after yesterday’s revelation that Katic has not been asked to return for a potential ninth season in an effort by the network and studio to cut costs.

Katic’s co-star Tamala Jones also failed to secure a contract for another season.

Fillion is said to be in negotiations to return to the series for a shortened, likely 13-episode, ninth season, at a reduced license fee.
