Encouraged by the success of Chicago Fire spinoff series Chicago PD and Chicago Med, The Blacklist creators are eyeing a potential spinoff series to compliment the original.

That’s according to the latest from Deadline, who report that X-Men star Famke Janssen, who recently recurred on ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder, will take the leading role if the series is greenlit.

Jensen will appear in the show’s upcoming May 5 installment as Susan “Scottie” Halsted, rumored to be the mother of Tom (Ryan Eggold), a powerful matriarchal figure who is thought to represent to Tom what James Spader’s Red Reddington is to Liz (Megan Boone).

Should the series push ahead (a decision will be likely within the next month and a half) the episode will act as a backdoor pilot for the new show.

The potential new series also comes from The Blacklist EPs Jon Bokenkamp, John Eisendrath, John Davis, John Fox and Michael Watkins, and would be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Davis Entertainment.

More as we have it.
