5 Things to Know About Grimm’s “Mommy Dearest”
We’re fresh off a screening of NBC Grimm’s upcoming “Mommy Dearest” and we can honestly say it’s one of the most unusual episodes we’ve seen this season.
Creepy? Yes. Squirm-inducing? In places. Dark humour? Check. This episode has all the hallmark traits of a typical episode of Grimm but it’s the ending that really lifts things into new territory. We’re honestly not sure what’s going to happen next, but we really like the direction the show has chosen to take with this Wu centric episode.
1. Old Friends, Older Wesen
In “Mommy Dearest” fan favorite Sergeant Wu (Reggie Lee) is unexpectedly reconnected with an expectant friend when she is attacked by one of the more insidious Wesen we’ve seen this season. (Seriously, give this one some consideration before viewing if you’re pregnant.) Reggie is a native of the Philippines and the episode offers a unique cultural story involving the legend of the Aswang.
2. What’s in a Name?
As you may have heard, Sergeant Wu now has a first name, and it gets uttered aloud in this episode. Would you like a hint as to what it is? Ok then. It rhymes with Wu!
3. And the best Line of the Night Goes To …
Silas Weir Mitchell’s Monroe for the following observation. “Premature information can be very messy.”
4. Give Your Instincts Credit
Remember when Hank went through his horrible trial by fire where all things Wesen were concerned? In “Mommy Dearest” Hank sees the same thing happening to Wu and feels powerless to help. However his advice to Wu to “follow your instincts” may offer cold comfort to the distraught sergeant.
5. That Finale! Where to From Here?
Please come back and talk to us following the finale. Those final seconds! What does it mean for Wu? Has he lost his mind … or is this just the beginning?
Grimm’s “Mommy Dearest” airs Friday March 7 (9-10 p.m. ET) on NBC.
