Bad News for Community Fans: NBC Delays Fourth Season Premiere
NBC announced yesterday that the fourth season premiere of cult favorite comedy Community will be delayed indefinitely, along with the second season premiere of Whitney. Both comedies were slated to appear on Friday nights starting October 19, but in a baffling move for the show’s many fans, NBC has chosen instead to air reruns of Grimm in the 8 PM to 9 PM timeslot.
This is only the latest in many troubling news reports about Community, which was removed from NBC’s schedule for an extended period during its third season. The show’s producers fired series creator Dan Harmon amid a flurry of controversy at the end of last season, and the fourth season renewal was in doubt right up until its late announcement.
In a statement first reported by THR, NBC says they are holding the Community and Whitney premieres “to continue to concentrate our promotional strength on our new NBC shows that are scheduled Monday through Wednesday,” and “When we have a better idea of viewing patterns in the next few weeks, we will announce new season premieres of Whitney and Community.”
In other words, it may be quite awhile before school is back in session for Greendale Community College.
