Dame Diana Rigg and Daughter Rachael Stirling Will Appear in Doctor Who Season 7

The latest casting news for the seventh season of Doctor Who was revealed during a series of tweets from @bbcdoctorwho this morning. Dame Diana Rigg, best known for her roles as Emma Peel from the sixties spy series The Avengers (no relation to the Marvel universe film) and the Bond girl in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, will be appearing alongside her daughter Rachael Stirling in an upcoming episode. This will be the first time the two have appeared together onscreen.

Riggs and Stirling will be recreating their real-life mother and daughter roles in a script by Mark Gatiss that Stirling, whose most recent appearance is in Snow White and the Huntsman, called “a gift,” saying the onscreen relationship between her mother and herself is “truly delicious.” According to another tweet, showrunner Steven Moffat summed up the news by saying Dame Diana Rigg, Rachael Stirling and a Mark Gatiss script – a combination of talents you could only get in Doctor Who!”

Doctor Who season 7 is expected to premiere in late August on BBC.
