Arrow Scoop: Olllie is Tasked With Saving Malcolm in “Dead to Rights”
Moira’s (Susanna Thompson) plot to be rid of Malcolm Meryln (John Barrowman) in tonight’s Arrow episode “Dead to Rights” will have far reaching consequences for all concerned – but particularly for Oliver (Stephen Amell) who will find himself tasked with protecting the man who is dead set on his demise.
Speaking exclusively to ScreenSpy last week Susanna Thompson teased the upcoming episode saying “She’s going to take a very strong stand. It’s almost like her last resort. She’s decided it’s time and she’s stepping out on a ledge. In “Dodger,” Moira sets a ball in motion that will come to an interesting conclusion in episode sixteen “Dead to Rights.” She’s starting to plot. The audience is going to see some of her strategic thinking which is going to involve an old friend of hers and Robert’s as well. You’ll be surprised to find out who becomes involved with her in that plot.”
While we now know that the accomplice in question is China White (Kelly Hu), tonight’s episode will see added complications when White employs Deadshot (guest star Michael Rowe) to carry out her dirty work for her.
Throw in (another) high profile benefit which sees not only Malcolm, but his son Tommy (Colin Donnell) attending, and the Hooded Vigilante finds himself faced with taking down Deadshot (again) in order to protect those he loves.
Speaking to Press yesterday, DC Comics vet and “Dead to Rights” writer Geoff Johns described the irony behind Arrow’s attempts to save the man who wants to kill him. “He doesn’t know anything about Malcolm Merlyn’s alternate identity of the Dark Archer so in a very bizarre way he’s going to try to save the life of the man that he almost lost his to. When people he cares about are going to be caught in the crossfire, he’s got to get involved.”
Just how deep does Moira’s assassination attempt on Malcolm bite? “Moira regrets most of the decisions she makes,” said Johns. “In trying to fix or correct those bad decisions, she makes more bad decisions. This stuff will haunt her for a while!”
