Glee Resurrects Star Wars Holiday Special, Chewbacca Guest Stars

By on December 6, 2011

Yes, you read that correctly. In what is certainly the most unlikely plot of the holiday season, Fox’s Glee has obtained the rights from Lucasfilm, Ltd. to stage a tribute to the infamous only-once-aired 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special in an “episode within an episode” story in this season’s holiday show. Star Matthew Morrison, who directed the episode, said Monday on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show that they called George Lucas for permission, and “he gave us Chewbacca. There is only one guy who can officially be Chewbaccca, and he lives in Northern California and they flew him in.”

Glee cast members (Harry Shum Jr., above, and Chris Colfer, below) have been delightedly Tweeting their photos with the famous Wookiee. It remains to be seen if Chewbacca can sing or dance.  Curious fans can find out at 8 PM ET/PT on Tuesday, December 13, when the Glee holiday episode airs on Fox!
