The CW’s new spinoff The Flash is to receive a full stand alone pilot, Deadline reports today.

The series was originally intended to segue towards backdoor pilot, via Arrow’s eighth, ninth and twentieth episodes, with the last episode showcasing Barry Allen’s transformation to the famous DC comics superhero.

However, it appears that following well received rough cuts of the initial eighth and ninth Arrow episodes, CW bosses have elected to film a full Flash pilot which will see Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen donning the famous red suit for the first time.

While Arrow fans may be saddened to hear that episode twenty may not feature the birth of The Flash, they will no doubt be heartened by the news that the new series is looking strong from the start.
