Is Debra Messing leaving NBC’s Smash? It appears so. Per THR, the Emmy award winning actress has just landed the main role in an as yet untitled Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky comedy.

The single camera comedy, an Israeli adaptation, will air on CBS and follows Shira (Messing), a woman who must balance a hectic job as ghost writer to a temperamental celebrity chef with her equally demanding job as a mother to three children.

With children ranging in age preschool to 7, Shira sometimes feels like the world’s worst mother over her tendency to cut corners in order to get it all done.

Messing will also receive co-executive producer status on the project.

Although there has been no cancellation order, Smash, which is currently laboring in its new Saturday night slot is not expected to return for a third season on NBC.
