It’s a rare treat to follow a TV project from inception to screen, but so it was for ScreenSpy with Mark Savela and Ken Kabatoff’s ambitious scifi drama Echoes.

We first heard of the project during an interview with then Stargate Visual Effects supervisor Mark Savela. Between talk of the franchise’s cancellation, and Mark’s Emmy nomination, we heard news of a new 12 minute pilot presentation, Echoes, that the guys were working to make a reality.

Set in the near future, Echoes follows the fortunes of a group of people caught in a war zone between two powerful alien races battling for supremacy of Earth. We later got to see some footage from the pilot presentation, and although we weren’t allowed to share what we saw, we couldn’t help but drop some details (and by ‘drop some details’ we mean ‘rave over’) on Twitter on the crisp movie-quality visuals, emotive musical score, and the highly original alien ship designs we previewed. Overall, Echoes looked to be a fresh and exciting venture that scifi fans – particularly Stargate fans, given its strong cast and crew pedigree – would want to check out.

It’s been a long journey for those involved but finally, this week, Echoes will be shopped at MIPCOM, following the rights recently being secured by Don Carmody Television.

Additionally, and perhaps fittingly, Stargate alum Carl Binder has been tapped for showrunner duties, in addition to penning the full extended pilot episode.

Echoes is officially in production, folks!
