Walking Dead Spin-Off Series Pilot Completed, Says Gale Ann Hurd

Walking Dead executive producer Gale Ann Hurd has revealed that work on the pilot episode of a potentially new spin-off series has already been completed.

Speaking at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film & Television, where she took part in the ongoing Hollywood Masters interview series, Hurd told the audience that work on the pilot wrapped on February 13, but notably “we haven’t been picked up to series yet.”

The pilot (and series, if the show is picked up) stars Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis and Frank Dillane and will run parallel to events in The Walking Dead.

Meanwhile, Hurd told reporters, “The next series that I’m doing was picked up to 13 episodes. It’s called Hunters. It’s at SyFy and it’s based on Whitley Strieber’s novel Alien Hunter. There’s a fantastic woman show runner, Natalie Chaidez.”

On the future of The Walking Dead itself and its ability to kill off a surprising number of the core cast and keep going, Hurd noted that “Kirkman has mapped out at least 250 issues. And then that was when we started shooting six years ago. And now he’s got at least 250 more. So we have plenty of story and plenty of characters to go through.”

The Walking Dead continues Sundays at 9/8c on AMC.
