Walking Dead Spinoff Gets a Two Season Order
The as yet untitled Walking Dead companion series (which recently wrapped filming on its pilot episode) has been given a two season green light from AMC, it was revealed today. (Yes, that’s without airing a single episode, which shows what confidence AMC is placing in this new venture.)
Set in Los Angeles, and starring Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey, the series will run parallel to events from its sister show, in addition to offering up new characters and storylines.
“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president, in a statement today. “We respectfully follow the request of Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”
The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert will executive producing for AMC Studios.
Co-creator and co-writer of the pilot episode Dave Erickson will serve as both executive producer and showrunner.
