What Pilots Did the CW Pick Up for 2013/2014?
Following on the heels of NBC and FOX, the CW yesterday announced which pilots will be given series orders this 2013/2014 season.
The previously titled Oxygen bears some similarity (read ‘lots of similarity’) to Roswell, centering on the love affair between a young human woman (Aimee Teegarden) and an alien (Matt Lanter) who arrives on Earth along with 8 of his kind. Think epic romance in the halls of a suburban high-school, with occasional alien high-jinks. Despite the been-there-done-that formula, this one will probably do quite well.
Who doesn’t love a period costume drama? Reign stars Adelaide Kane as the 15-year-old Mary Queen of Scots. Mary arrives in France with her best friends as ladies in waiting for her betrothal to Prince Francis (Toby Regbo). At court, Mary must learn to survive “fierce foes, dark forces and a world of sexual intrigue.” Prepare for some bodice ripping fun.
THE TOMORROW PEOPLE
Based on the UK series of the same name The Tomorrow People is the next Heroes, or at least the next Alphas. The series stars a large cast of young and attractive up and comers including Peyton List, Robbie Amell (Stephen Amell’s cousin), Aaron Yoo and Luke Mitchell. Their characters represent the next stage in human evolution, so we can expect to see telekinesis, levitation, teleportation and lots of furrowed eyebrows. Together, this next generation of humanity work to defeat evil.
The CW has decided to pass for a second time on The Selection, a Hunger Games-esque book adaptation in which a young woman must compete for the hand of a prince in a fantasy world. Back in January, CW Boss Mark Pedowitz mentioned that the script had come in, was well done and that the pilot was still in contention. Sadly, it didn’t make the final short list.
And no, The Secret Circle has still not been magically been resurrected from its cancellation grave.
