True Detective comes to HBO on Sunday, January 12.

The new series (comprising an initial 8 episodes) stars Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle, and Woody Harrelson as Martin Hart, two Louisiana detectives whose lives are intertwined by a 17 year hunt for a serial killer, from the original murder in 1995 to the reopening of the case in 2012.

Also starring are Kevin Dunn, Michelle Monaghan, Alexandra Daddario and Elizabeth Reaser.

The series is written by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga, who both serve as executive producers along with Steve Golin and Scott Stephens.
