Liam Cunningham Signs on to Game of Thrones
Liam Cunningham’s credits are too long and illustrious to mention, but genre fans may remember his most recent outings as Richard Tate in BBC’s short-lived and underrated Outcasts and his guest spot as Colfur in Starz’ Camelot. And now it appears, Liam is Game of Thrones bound.
According to EW, the actor has signed on to play Davos Seaworth, a family man and former smuggler. Davos, a fan favorite from George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels, earned himself the nickname ‘The Onion Knight’ after managing to smuggle good into Stannis Baratheon’s besieged castle during the war that put Robert Baratheon on the Iron Throne.
Stannis gave Davos a Knighthood for his help, but also shortened some of his fingers as punishment for his past crimes.
In season two, Stannis again enlists Davos’ help in his attempt to seize the Iron Throne from new King Joffrey.
We’re sure Liam Cunningham will bring both gravitas and depth to the role.
