Jerry O’Connell (Sliders, Jerry Maguire, Scream 2) has landed the role of Herman Munster in NBC’s upcoming Munsters reboot, Mockingbird Lane, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. The show will be a darker and more edgy version of the popular TV show ‘The Munsters’ from the 1960’s.

O’Connell is set to play patriarch Herman Munster (a role first made famous by the late Fred Gwynne) and will star opposite Eddie Izzard as Grandpa Munster, and Mason Cook as Eddie.

The show will follow a one hour comedy drama format rather than that of a half hour comedy.

Bryan Singer (X-Men) will direct the pilot, while Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Heroes) will take on writer/executive producer duties.

More as we have it.
