The Blacklist certainly knows how to keep its fans on tenterhooks.

The Fall finale “Kings of the Highway” saw Red (James Spader) lose not only the leverage he required to clear Liz’s name, but also Liz (Megan Boone) herself, as she was ambushed by Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) and his team and ultimately taken into custody by the episodes’s end.

Does Red have any more aces up his sleeve? And more importantly, can Ressler really protect Keen from the Cabal once she begins the process of being processed through the FBI’s official channels?

The show returns Thursday January 7th with a winter premiere called “The Director.” The name itself suggests this will be a cabal and Blacklist mythology-heavy installment.

NBC teases that while Liz While Liz (Megan Boone) awaits trial Red (James Spader) and Aram (Amir Arison) will take bold measures to ensure her protection.

Our exclusive sneak peek below shows the cabal working to make sure the Elizabeth Keen problem is permanently shut down before she has the opportunity to testify about her part in the killing of the Attorney General in open court. Better work fast, guys!

Meanwhile Liz catches a brief opportunity to tell Ressler that her conscience is clean following her actions.

“The Director” airs Thursday January 7 (09:00PM – 10:00PM) on NBC.
