The Geek’s Guide to Fall TV’s Hottest Men 2012
Even as we bid a sad farewell to summer with a series of show finales this week and next, we can’t help feel excited for the annual Fall slew of new TV.
Each year here at Screen Spy we wade through the pilots and pluck ten of the very hottest guys set to heat up our TV screens throughout the winter months. Our rules are simple. In order to make our Hot 10 the show must be new and the guy in question must be starring or recurring. This year’s new faces include cowboys, comic-book heroes, fairytale creatures, firefighters, blue-blooded doctors and more.
In no particular order, we present The Geek’s Guide to Fall TV’s Hottest Men 2012.
NUMBER ONE: STEPHEN AMELL
Who is he? Stephen Amell.
What is he known for? Hung, Private Practice, Heartland.
What show is he on? Arrow, the CW.
Why will we like him? We were hooked on Stephen Amell’s amazing abs from the moment we saw him jump-climbing his workout frame in the CW’s teaser trailer for the show. Amell is tasked with balancing two very distinct personae on this show – that of playboy Oliver Queen, and vigilante Arrow – and he pulls both off with aplomb. And great abs. Just saying.
NUMBER TWO: JAY RYAN
Who is he? Jay Ryan.
What is he known for? Go Girls, Curran in Terra Nova, Sea Patrol.
What show is he on? Beauty and the Beast, the CW.
Why will we like him? Only the CW (Home of the Handsome) would be brazen enough to cast someone as outrageously good looking as Ryan in the role of the eponymous Beast. The slight facial scarring his character Vincent sports (plus those outbursts of snarling, animal rage) only adds to the package in our opinion. This is definitely a tale of inner beastliness.
NUMBER THREE: JESSE SPENCER
Who is he? Jesse Spencer.
What is he known for? Being Doctor Robert Chase on House MD, and Billy on long running Australian soap Neighbours.
What show is he on? Chicago Fire, NBC.
Why will we like him? The only thing hotter than a Chicago fire-fighter is a Chicago fire-fighter with guilt issues. We expect Spencer’s Lt. Matthew Casey to butt heads a lot with Taylor Kinney’s Lt. Kelly Severide (see next) as each blames the other for the death of a colleague. We even made popcorn!
NUMBER FOUR: TAYLOR KINNEY
Who is he? Taylor Kinney.
What is he known for? He’s Mason Lockwood from The Vampire Diaries.
What show is he on? Chicago Fire, NBC.
Why will we like him? Two fire-fighters are better than one. (Look, it’s Mason Lockwood in a fireman’s outfit!) With all those hotheads trading accusations, sparks are going to fly where Kinney’s Lt. Kelly Severide is concerned. Just as well he’s a fireman …
NUMBER FIVE: ZACH GILFORD
Who is he? Zach Gilford.
What is he known for? The Last Stand (Jan 2013), being Matt Saracen in Friday Night Lights, and Off the Map.
What show is he on? The Mob Doctor, FOX.
Why will we like him? Zach plays the adorable blue-blooded Doctor Brett Robinson in FOX’s Medical Mob (Mobical?) drama. Principled, by the book and maybe in need of a little de-starching, Doctor Brett has no idea his girlfriend is moonlighting for the South Chicago Mob. We feel a trial by fire coming on!
NUMBER SIX: JONNY LEE MILLER
Who is he? Jonny Lee Miller.
What is he known for? Dark Shadows, Trainspotting, Byzantium (2012).
What show is he on? Elementary, CBS.
Why will we like him? When the news broke that CBS were pushing ahead with their own modern day take on Sherlock Holmes, the BBC and others were skeptical that the show and its lead character would be sufficiently ‘different’ from their own, and in particular from Benedict Cumberbatch’s interpretation of Holmes. Jonny Lee Miller’s alcoholic, tattooed, scruffy Holmes is refreshingly sexy and original, and offers something unique.
NUMBER SEVEN: JD PARDO
Who is he? JD Pardo.
What is he known for? Being Nahuel in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Drive, as well as guest spots on 90210, CSI:NY and the OC.
What show is he on? Revolution, NBC.
Why will we like him? Let’s face it. Anyone good looking enough to feature in the Twilight saga is hot enough to make this list! JD plays butt-kicking, archery master Nate on NBC’s Revolution, and we hear he’s a bit of a bad boy. Working undercover for the Militia, JD has plenty more going on than just his pretty face.
NUMBER EIGHT: SCOTT SPEEDMAN
Who is he? Scott Speedman.
What is he known for? Felicity, The Vow.
What show is he on? Last Resort, ABC.
Why will we like him? Scott plays XO Sam Kendal in ABC’s Last Resort. (Man in uniform alert!) Scott is perfectly cast as an honorable patriot faced with a difficult decision when he finds himself in charge of the most powerful nuclear submarine ever built. (Sexy man operating dangerous equipment alert!)
NUMBER NINE: JASON O’MARA
Who is he? Jason O’ Mara.
What is he known for? One for the Money, Terra Nova, being evil Albert Wesker from Resident Evil: Extinction.
What show is he on? Vegas, CBS.
Why will we like him? We have an enduring soft spot for Irish actor Jason O’Mara who brings a certain charm and sense of humor to every role, from the sadly missed Terra Nova to his newest cowboy role on CBS’ Vegas. Jason plays Frank Lamb, younger brother to Dennis Quaid’s Ralf, in lawless 1960’s Vegas. And if that isn’t enough to grab your attention, we’re just going to say the word Cowboy one more time. There!
NUMBER TEN: DAVE ANNABLE
Who is he? Dave Annable.
What is he known for? Brothers and Sisters, Reunion.
What show is he on? 666 Park Avenue, ABC.
Why will we like him? Dave plays the intelligent and tenacious Henry Martin in ABC’s spooky 666 Park Avenue. When offered the opportunity to manage the Drake – New York’s most exclusive address – Henry finds himself drawn to a seductive and deadly lifestyle that may just demand his soul in payment. One look at the sexy picture above, and we feel Henry might be half way there already.
