LUCIFER Comic Con Panel Exclusive

“In the books, you’ve got these crazy, gigantic wonderfully brilliant ideas,” says Lucifer EP Joe Henderson in this exclusive video, shot over the weekend at Comic Con.

The cast and crew of FOX’s upcoming graphic novels adaptation, Lucifer, took to the stage in San Diego this weekend to talk about what’s in store when the show premieres mid-season 2016.

“Our challenge is that our show is very grounded. How do we take these huge ideas, like Lucifer creating this other world where he can be his own God, and whittle it down into an idea and a character arc?” said Henderson, describing the challenge of turning the Neil Gaiman-created Lucifer into a weekly procedural.

The challenge, it seems is one that the cast, and series star Tom Ellis (Merlin) in particular, welcomes.

“He leaped off the page for me,” says Ellis of his character – the charming charismatic and handsome original fallen angel, who, bored and unhappy in Hell, takes refuge in Los Angeles, where he uses his gift of persuasion to punish bad guys.

“He was almost like an Oscar Wilde character. I just had this image of Mick Jagger having had sex with Noel Coward … that’s what I based him on.”

The series will adapt the Lucifer solo series, penned by Mike Carey (which ran for 75 issues from 2000 to 2006) rather than the original Gaiman-created Sandman character.

Fans can expect to see Lucifer running a piano bar called Lux in LA, where he will encounter a multitude of angels and demons, in addition to tackling the thorny issue of free will.
