What Do The Latest ‘Revenge’ Promo Pictures Say To You?

We like the latest Revenge cast promotional pictures. A lot. In fact we think they speak volumes about the show’s protagonists and maybe throw a hint or two at what’s to come in season two.

The cast, dressed in black and white, with the exception of Emily Van Camp, are standing in what appears to be a grand foyer. It could even be a reception room in Grayson’s manner, except that it looks more like a chess board, with each of the characters taking up position as a piece on the board. On Revenge, everyone’s a player and you forget that at your peril!

My only gripe about these pictures? They put my favorite mercurial reclusive billionaire too far in back!

Rumor also has it that a popular freshman show will undergo a dramatic location transformation by setting its second season in New York. And although it’s probably safe to rule out Game of Thrones, the argument for the Graysons and co. upping sticks after summer is quite a compelling one. It can’t be summer in the Hamptons forever after all. Look out of that window. Is that a beach front view, or a New York balcony view?

What do you think?

Very interesting concept of the chess board. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The interesting appeal of this exciting show is the fact that it is a study in plot structure and foreshadowing. Every little expression, nuance, movement or comment can foreshadow what will happen in thirty minutes or in the next episode.

We actually watch Revenge not only as entertainment, but as a way to study the making of a dramatic story. Each tip-off from the cast of characters keeps you on the edge of your seat. The subtleties of the show engineer a plot that is as much about a study in writing as it is about a television drama.

Speaking of pictures two and three, it seems that Ashley will be moving up to play a greater role in the grand scheme of things. She, like Nolan, Declan and Charlotte, is dressed in dramatic black and white. Of course, this could be nothing more than a nice fashion choice or the “foreshadowing” that all four of these characters will continue to have a little good and a little bad in them. All four of them are necessary to the plot; however, they are all vulnerable, unpredictable and a little risky. At any given moment, they can step up to the plate or fall off of the horse.

The pictures also feature the women in the forefront with the men in the background. After all, the two main forces within this show are “Emily” and “Victoria”. Again, Ashley may step up her game and eventually side with the one who can ultimately move her up the social ladder on the grandest scale. Ashley is willing to play with fire, but is she willing to be burned?

In the third picture, Notice how Emily and Victoria both have their hands placed on opposite hips. Both ladies exhibit the ever-present competitiveness over Daniel. While Emily is original, Victoria is the ever-amusing copycat. This was especially amusing in Episode 1.11 as Emily and Victoria both presented Daniel with a memorable scrapbook. Of course, Victoria’s scrapbook was bigger, but Emily’s was original.

In the third picture, Nolan still has his arms crossed because he honestly doesn’t know what is coming next, so his defense mechanism is on constant display. Nolan is fun, dangerous and completely entertaining, but most of all, he is indispensable to Emily. Emily needs Nolan much more than Nolan needs Emily. Like the unfolding back story, Nolan is life support to Emily and, in my opinion, life support to the entire show. His sneaky ingenuity, technological genius, creative brilliance and goofy demeanor is the sugary frosting on the cake of Revenge.

One more very interesting note about these pictures is the fact that Emily, the main character, is the only one wearing red. Does this symbolize main character status or will blood be on her hands before her adventure is over? Remember the Confucius quote we read in the very first episode? “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” This quote was a major foreshadowing of things to come. However, at the rate that Emily is going, her journey of revenge may require an entire cemetery.

And last, but not least, Charlotte. Poor little Charlotte has her hand upon her neck. She will possibly be an unwilling pawn in the great divorce story between Conrad and Victoria, especially after learning she is actually Emily’s half-sister. Is she covering her jugular for fear of the vampires of The Hamptons? Like Ashley, Charlotte’s role in this ever-evolving plot will probably explode just when we least expect it. Just think, if it all works out in the end, Jack and Declan would be in love with sisters! By the way, Daniel is still in the picture.

Norma, that was the most interesting Revenge article I have read in a long time. Thanks so much for posting it here. I loved every word.

I particularly liked the part about Nolan’s arm-folding being a perpetual self-defense posture. And Charlotte and the vampires of the Hamptons? Inspired!

      Thank you so much!
