Each Sunday over the next four weeks we’ll be bringing you a roundup of what’s new and what’s making a long-awaited return to our TV screens. We’re kicking off the New Year and week one with the following comedies, dramas, premiers and even a mockumentary or two. If you want to know what’s hot this January then this list is for you.

Check back with us on Sunday January 8th for week two.

Sunday January 1st – Sherlock, Angry Boys

The much praised Sherlock returns to the BBC with three 90 minute episodes starting with A Scandal in Belgravia on New Years day.

Sunday 8th January sees episode 2.02 The Hounds of Baskerville, while The Reichenbach Fall completes the series on January 15th.

Angry Boys debuts on HBO on Sunday January 1st. This new comedy series from Chris Lilley is shot in mock documentary style, and explores the lives, dreams and aspirations of males in present-day society, spotlighting six characters, all portrayed by Lilley, from a pair of 17-year-old twin boys in Australia to a 24-year-old Los Angeles-based rapper.

ABC has two new comedies premiering today. Work It at 8.30 pm centers on two unrepentant ‘guy’s guys’ who, unable to find work, dress as women to get jobs as pharmaceutical reps. Not only do they pull it off, but they might just learn to be better men in the process.

In Jane by Design, at 9 pm on ABC Family, a case of mistaken identity has a dateless high school outsider living a double life as a twenty-something career girl in the fashion world.

Today also sees both NCIS and NCIS:LA making a  return to screens on CBS, at 8 and 9 pm respectively, while Switched at Birth returns to ABC Family at 8 pm.
