Doctor Who is set to make a return (with the exception of the upcoming Christmas special episode, of course) in April 2013.

Doctor Who magazine recently announced the news, revealing that the back half of series seven, consisting of eight new episodes (including a Cybermen-themed episode written by Neil Gaiman), would return in April. Perhaps un-coincidentally, this is also the month the 50th anniversary special will begin filming, although the landmark episode is not set to air until November 2013.

In a recent interview with SFX magazine, Executive producer Steven Moffat described the new episodes as follows: “No two-parters, so they’re all standalone stories. And they are all huge – there isn’t the budget-saver episode. I don’t know how we’ve done this. Possibly we’ll find out at the end when we’ll have no money left and will have to go to prison…”

Doctor Who’s Christmas Special ‘The Snowmen’ will air December 25th on BBC 1.
