Tuesday’s episode of This is Us is set to re-visit the Pearsons on a sweltering summer day in the 1980’s.

And while the events of “The Pool” won’t immediately show us how the unique personalities of the Pearson siblings came to be, they will highlight the origins of the struggles that come to dominate their adult lives in later years.

The story kicks off as Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) take Kevin, Kate, and Randall to the community pool on a hot day only to realize each child is going through their own struggles of identity, attention and image.

Meanwhile, back in the 21st Century, we’ll check in on Kevin (Justin Hartley), now firmly ensconced in New York and determined to make it as a serious actor — with some pretty hilarious results.

Also, while on a date with Chrissy (Katie Metz), Toby (Chris Sullivan) runs into his slim, attractive and bubbly ex-wife, sending Kate on a spiral of self doubt … and obsessive stalking!

And over at Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) place, William (Ron Cephas Jones) is mistakenly reported as a loiterer in Randall’s predominately white neighborhood, which exposes deep-rooted issues of race, and some surprising truths about William’s past.

Catch 2 sneak peek clips from Tuesday’s “The Pool” episode of This is Us below.

This is Us continues Tuesday October 18 (09:00PM – 10:00PM) on NBC.
