TV RECAP: Agents of SHIELD

By Felicia Kudronowicz

Last night’s “Ye Who Enter Here” picked up right where we left off two weeks ago with the gang still on the hunt for the hidden city – and HYDRA right on their heels.

The cold open is a dream sequence in which Skye is running, trying to find Coulson while a music box is playing. When she finally finds him, he is with May, holding a baby. He says they have to leave the baby because poisoned trees produce poisoned fruit. At the end of the dream Skye is opening a box that turns her to stone like the Obelisk. Seems like Skye might be worried that she will become evil like her father. She is also wearing a flower dress, which might also have some symbolism.

When she wakes up from this dream/nightmare, Coulson is there to report that they’ve located the hidden city in San Juan. We also find out that HYDRA is after Raina. They don’t want to kill her, they just want to kidnap her (with the help of Agent 33 aka evil clone half faced May), but the Koenig brothers (Patton Oswalt) stop them with one of the sweetest gadgets on the show, a invisibility cloak umbrella. Yeah that’s what I’m going to call it.

Coulson sends half the team to help protect Raina while the other half goes to San Juan to destroy the hidden temple before HYDRA can get to it. During the mission, Skye talks to Raina who reveals like she can touch the Obelisk, which is why HYDRA wants her. They need her to retrieve whatever is in the temple. Raina tells Skye that she is special like her. They are “worthy” according to the blue angels/aliens. She also tells Skye that anyone who isn’t “worthy” that enters the temple will be in danger (aka the other half of the SHIELD team). She tries to warn them, but right on cue, HYDRA shows up to kidnap Raina again. This time they’ve brought their secret weapon, Ward. He demands that they take both Raina AND Skye. Skye makes a comment about Ward picking a side and he says he definitely has, but doesn’t say which. This still leads me to believe that SOMEHOW he is on SHIELD’s side in all of this. In the meantime HYDRA gets away with both Skye and Raina.

While this whole Raina mission is taking place, everyone else is with Coulson in San Juan. They have found the hidden temple but when they send Mack down into it, he touches the gate and turns into a super strong scary guard and promptly turns against them. He ends up getting pushed back into the tunnel and Coulson tells them to close it.

Another mini storyline this episode involves the issue with Fitz and Simmons. Simmons shares a nice moment with Bobbi as they talk about what went down with Fitz and how he is her best friend and nothing more. Bobbi insists she should talk to him about it. She tries but instead Fitz says he’s going to leave the lab because he can’t work with her. It’s heart breaking to see. I actually really do believe that Simmons doesn’t have feelings for Fitz but I wish they could still be besties.

Overall this was a really strong episode with a lot going on. There were fight scenes, intense conversations, a Ward/Skye encounter and even a Harry Potter reference. This was definitely an improvement from the last episode. Next week is the winter season finale and things are about to get crazy. Who will get to the hidden temple first? What will happen with Skye meets her dad? Is Ward with SHIELD or against them? Hopefully we’ll find out next week!
