His Toughest Challenge Yet? First Details on Sherlock

Sherlock doing John’s Best Man wedding speech? No, it’s not a work of creative fan fiction, but part of the synopsis for Sherlock’s second episode of the new season, airing Sunday Jan. 5 on BBC1.

In a recently released statement, the BBC teases that Sherlock’s upcoming “The Sign of Three” will see Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) facing his biggest challenge of all – delivering a Best Man’s speech on John’s (Martin Freeman) wedding day.

But, according to the report, all isn’t quite as it seems.

Mortal danger stalks the reception – and someone might not make it to the happy couple’s first dance.

Sherlock must thank the bridesmaids, solve the case and stop a killer.

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Sherlock Holmes, with Martin Freeman as John Watson, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft, Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade, Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan and Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper.

Catch Sherlock’s second outing, “The Sign of Three” Sunday Jan. 5 9.00-10.30pm on BBC1.
