BLINDSPOT Offs a Major Character in

By Pauline Perenack

Last week’s episode finally shed some light on the seemingly random tasks Oscar had for Jane.

Turns out, they all lead towards indicting Mayfair. But the real question is, who is the mastermind of this plan? Oscar? Taylor Shaw? Or someone else entirely?

Either way, it’s clear that Mayfair has some connection to this group and it’s one that has them seeking revenge.

Tonight’s episode title anagram decodes to “The Final Order Will be Revealed” which looks to be pointing towards a final showdown between Jane and Oscar.

While it could prove to be a tense showdown, we all know this is the Jane and Weller show, and it should be obvious which side she’ll choose. Or is it? Let’s recap what happened tonight.

Deathbed Confessions

After a few less than stellar episodes, Blindspot finally returned to its initial intrigue. After teasing fans all season about Operation Daylight, and cover-up, it all came to a head tonight. Jane was fully working against Operation Daylight and everything it stood for, and she and her team had a systematic plan to take out everyone involved. For some reason though, Jane wanted Sofia on her team, and hopefully we learn the reason why. We also learned that Jane really isn’t Taylor Shaw. Maybe. Almost this entire season, we’ve been told she is in fact, Taylor, but signs were there to throw us off – the funeral scene, the tooth – so, who is she? And why is Weller so important to their plans? If this was a single season series, I would say his importance was strictly his connection to Mayfair, but since we’re going into season two, it’s got to be something more.

It will also be interesting to see how showrunner Martin Gero manages the death of Mayfair over the next few days. Since Mayfair was openly gay, her death suddenly falls into the troubling trend of gay characters being killed off this season, effectively pulling Blindspot into the Another Dead Lesbian Trope. There undoubtedly will be murmurs throughout social media, and some were already swirling on Twitter soon after the shot rang out.

The finale is going to be really interesting now with Mayfair’s death, and the shake up within the FBI. The Jane Doe investigation is no more, so what does that mean about the tattoos? Will the team continue to chase them? Or will they move on because the death of Mayfair will be too much for them? Next week’s finale should prove to be an explosive episode, and will surely set us up for an interesting second season.
