DC’s Stargirl has been a surprising and welcome bright spot in our summer TV calendar this year.

The show, which follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore’s (Brec Bassinger) journey to inspire an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past, brims with a sense of optimism and positivity, and offers a sweet reprieve from the grimmer reality beyond our TV screens of late.

Today, the CW announced the series has been officially renewed for a second season, which will air exclusively on the network. (Season one is currently also airing Mondays on DC Universe).

DC’s Stargirl reimagines the titular character at the heart of the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, from a comic book series by series creator Geoff Johns, lovingly inspired by his late sister who was killed in a 1996 plane crash.
