It’s just what the doctor ordered. Or in this case, the network.

NBC has given an official green light to more episodes of New Amsterdam, it was revealed today.

A full season order for the medical drama makes New Amsterdam the first official full-season pickup of the 2018/19 broadcast season. The series premiered on Sept. 25 to 8.4 million total viewers, and a 1.8 demo rating.

The series follows Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold), New Amsterdam’s newest medical director (the fifth in five years!) who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care, all while dealing with a personal cancer diagnosis of his own.

In addition to Eggold, the series also stars Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher and Tyler Labine.

New Amsterdam is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital” and his fifteen years as Medical Director at the hospital.

Episodes continue Tuesdays (10-11 p.m. ET) on NBC.
