If you’ve been wondering if and when Dr. Max’s (Ryan Eggold) bosses in the Board of Management were ever going to tackle him for gutting entire departments, mass-firing consultants, and hiring fifty new attendings, then tonight’s episode is definitely for you.

New Amsterdam returns with “Every Last Minute,” an episode that will see Reynolds (Joko Sims) finally getting to begin work on the new cardiac department he promised Max he would craft, following his firing and immediate rehiring in the series premiere. However when Reynolds’ begins to assemble a team of excellent, young women of color only, speculation and comments soon begin to fly.

Meanwhile, as Doc Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) battles skepticism from a patient’s parents, Max helps Bloom (Janet Montgomery) find a solution for a pregnant patient in a tough spot.

However, perhaps the biggest takeaway from the night is Dr. Max’s firing, as seen in the first of four exclusive new sneak peek clips, sent our way courtesy of NBC, below.

It appears the Board imagined Max would have been more “grateful and compliant” to receive the position as medical director. However his ‘new broom sweeps very clean’ approach has rattled confidence in his ability to turn a profit — and keep the lights on.

Seriously though, you don’t imagine something as simple as being fired is going to stop Max from pushing ahead with his plans, do you?

Meanwhile, Doc. Sharpe tries and fails to get Max to make time for his own cancer treatment, as Max continues to avoid telling his pregnant wife about his diagnosis.

Something’s got to give in the “Every Last Minute” episode of New Amsterdam airing Tuesday, October 9 10:00 pm ET/PT on NBC.
