It’s hard for us to believe, but we are only a day away from what is sure to be an intense end to Shadowhunters first season.

After the events of last week’s nerve-wracking and soul-crushing episode, “Malec,” our favorite shadowhunters and downworlders must now set their sights on capturing their newest enemy and biggest betrayer. If they don’t, the world’s most powerful item may land in the hands of the world’s most evil man.

It’s sure to be an exciting hour, in line with the entire season’s intense emotional drama and shocking twists. The show hasn’t held much back from start to finish, which is why we’re just as eager to see where season one leaves us as we are sad that it’s already coming to an end.

To celebrate and mourn the Shadowhunters season one finale, we’re counting down our favorite parts of season one, from plot lines to locations and moments. It’s our way of saying thanks to the show for the memories, and mind-numbing breakdowns. We couldn’t have lost as much sleep without you, Shadowhunters.

Here are nine things, in no particular order, that we loved about the first season of Freeform’s latest hit series.

It’s hard not to feel for Luke. There’s a lot going on in the Shadowhunters universe, but his plate is — if it’s not immediately obvious — one of the most full. Not only did Luke “fall from grace,” but with the kidnapping of his love Joceyln and the return of Valentine, his former parabatai and the man who made him a werewolf out of spite, it’s easy to see why he might feel a little overwhelmed. Let’s also not forget that he’s essentially a surrogate parent for Clary and Simon, while working as a police detective and an informant for the werewolves.

Things get really hairy for him (no pun intended) when after a fight with an alpha, Luke becomes the leader of New York’s werewolf pack. But through it all Luke remains loyal, caring and strong. He never gives up on the people that need him and he never stops desiring to protect them. This is most obvious when it comes to his interactions with Clary early on in the season, and then later with Simon, who he helps work through his new life as a vampire.

Luke is a truly a one-of-a-kind hero in the Shadowhunters universe. The only thing better than how fiercely he loves is how fierce he becomes in order to protect that love.
