The Purge is officially coming back for season 2.

The news came from Chris McCumber, president, entertainment networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, in a statement earlier today.

“USA Network is so proud to be the television home for the iconic franchise,” said McCumber. “The partnership and creative trust of Jason Blum and everyone at Blumhouse Television and Universal Pictures ensured The Purge’s successful transition from film to TV — and, along with Universal Cable Productions, we look forward to digging even deeper into the mythology in Season 2.”

Based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse Productions, The Purge revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.

The series stars stars Amanda Warren (The Leftovers), Fiona Dourif (The Blacklist) and Gabriel Chavarria (East Los High) and William Baldwin (MacGyver).

The Purge has proved to be USA Networks current top-rated series, averaging 1.1 mil and a 0.4. across its freshman run.

The Purge airs its season one finale “A Nation Reborn” tonight, Tues. Nov. 6 (10/9c) on USA Network.
