Every year that The Walking Dead has appeared at Comic Con, the panel has always been filled with a lot of excitement and has always provided fans with something to look forward to, and this year was no exception.

While it couldn’t have its usual setting in Hall H, The Walking Dead brought together TWDU chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunner and executive producer Angela King, executive producer Greg Nicotero, and cast members Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, Josh McDermitt, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, and Paola Lazaro together to answer fan questions, and to discuss the episode, “A Certain Doom” which will be airing as a standalone episode on Sunday, Oct. 4.

As such, a few of the things we learned from the panel included:

  1. The writer’s room has been working remotely, but they haven’t been able to start production. As such, King informs us that season 11 will not be airing in 2020, but instead, season 10 will be extended by 6 episodes, which will run in early 2021. There will be more shared about this soon.
  2. Ultimately, they’re approaching everything cautiously, and want to make sure that everyone feels safe and comfortable to return, and the crew is willing to change things up to make that happen.
  3. Cohan says that Maggie’s return in the finale is not just a visit – she’s back for good.
  4. Nicotero teases that the last 5 minutes of the finale takes it “to a whole new place.”
  5. King says she’s excited for fans to see what happens with Beta, and Carol’s revenge act. She says that every person in the cast is important in this finale.
  6. McBride says that Carol is blinded by grief and vengeance at the detriment to her friendship with Daryl and the group. Ultimately, she blows up a lot of things.
  7. Payton describes Ezekiel as welcoming adversity at this point. He knows he’s not long for this world, so nothing is stopping him.
  8. Negan and Maggie don’t have an easy road ahead of them. Maggie is coming in, and hasn’t seen what Negan has been up to, so they’ll have to figure out how to occupy the same space.
  9. Larazro wishes for more scenes with Morgan since their characters are very similar, and she wonders who would win between the two of them.
  10. Gimple says that he is working on things where fans will be able to see characters they know and love early in the apocalypse.

While fans will have to wait a little longer than any would like for season 11, it sounds like producers are working hard to give not only a proper “finale” to season 10, but will be amplifying it with an extra 6 episodes. Characters will be returning, while others will be finding their way in the world, creating a thrilling new set of episodes.

The Walking Dead episode “A Certain Doom” will be airing on Sunday, Oct. 4 on AMC at 9am ET/PT.
