BLINDSPOT Recap: Jane's Identity Revealed

By Pauline Perenack

Introducing Taylor Shaw

We’re finally back! Remember how far away the February 29 premiere seemed way back at the end of the mid-season finale? Well, we finally made it, and Blindspot is back with a splash. There is no break in the action as we pick up pretty much right where we left off.

While series creator Martin Gero has done away with the weekly anagrams in the titles, he has promised there is still a puzzle with the titles, and it’s much more difficult than the anagrams. Have you figured it out yet?

This week’s episode, “Cease Forcing Enemy,” has our team following another tattoo, this time all the way to the Black Sea, while Patterson remains at the office, answering for her part in her boyfriend, David’s, death, so let’s recap what happened.

This is all Your Plan

For a winter premiere, this episode does not disappoint. We had everything from “Jeller” moments, to Patterson’s brilliance, to Jane flying a commercial airplane. What more could you ask for?

The episode also dove deeper into the mystery that is Jane, and we finally received confirmation on the answer to the biggest conundrum of the season’s first half – is Jane really Taylor Shaw. The answer? Yes, she is, or, at least as Oscar tells it. While the subject of Orion wasn’t touched, we learned a little more about Oscar – that he worked closely with Jane, he was there when she had all of her tattoos applied, and was obviously one of the only people she trusted with her plan. The unfolding of that plan through this second half of the season should prove to be interesting, as Oscar has told Jane he will only tell her what she wants to know if she starts working for him. When she tells him this is only going to work on her terms, he reminds her that his terms ARE her terms, and they need to get started. However, since Jane is an entirely different person now, will she still see the world in the same way she did before she went undercover? What happens if she doesn’t agree with her original plan? Hopefully we’ll see as the season wears on.

Zapata seemed to get off easy tonight, as she learned about Carter’s disappearance just before she handed in her resignation. However, because this is Blindspot, I’m sure somehow her betrayal will come back to haunt her.

However, the character everyone on Twitter cared the most about tonight was Patterson. She was saved because of her own brilliance, but will her brilliance be enough for her to keep her job as the season wears on? Fischer could end up being an adversary, since he’s out for Mayfair’s job, and has seen the cracks in the team.

Next week will be interesting as hopefully we can learn a little more about Jane’s background, and why she chose to go so deeply undercover.
