ONCE’s Carlyle & de Ravin Talk Addiction, Dark Magic & Betrayal

Go behind the scenes with Emilie de Ravin and Robert Carlyle of Once Upon a Time with this new video interview, courtesy of our friends at ABC.

Carlyle and de Ravin, who play Belle and Rumpel/Gold in the sweeping fantasy drama, outline the issues that will challenge the newlyweds this season.

What is the function of the magical hat Gold discovered during the season premiere? What significance does Belle attach to the giving up of the Dark One’s dagger, and how might she react to the discovery that Gold still continues to harness its powers?

This couple is about to face their toughest personal challenge yet, the Once stars warn.

“It’s the biggest gesture he could give her,” de Ravin explains, referencing Gold’s surrendering of his Dark Magic dagger. “Leading her to believe that he’s changed enough in a good positive way as a person to be able to do that kind of whisks away many many concerns she has about him slipping in and out of the dark side … but he still is.”

Meanwhile, Carlyle discusses Gold’s addiction to power and where it might lead this happy couple, and according to Carlyle it’s not a happy place.

“Gold’s duplicity in terms of the dagger is coming back to haunt him already” he warns. “As the season goes on that will become more and more of an issue. So far Belle doesn’t know what he’s up to, but I think that’s in the post. When she finds out, that’s going to put a lot of pressure on that relationship – the most it has ever seen.”

Once Upon a Time continues Sundays 8/7c on ABC.
