Whenever Van Helsing comes to Comic Con, there is always a lively panel, and this year was no exception.

Stars Kelly Overton, Jonathan Scarfe, Tricia Helfer, Jennifer Cheon Garcia, Aleks Paunovic, Keeya King, and Nicole Munoz, along with showrunner/executive producer Jonathan Lloyd Walker, and executive producers Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev were on hand to answer fan questions, discuss where Vanessa Van Helsing is, and to take a closer look at her meeting with The Dark One — all from the comfort (and safety) of their homes!

Additionally, they discussed what it was like filming overseas, and how COVID-19 has affected production, and what Season 5 has in store.

As such, here are some things we learned during the panel:

  1. Overton talked about how intense her first scene with Helfer was, but that it was a lot of fun, even though it was bittersweet for her since she knew she’d be away for a while afterwards.
  2. Scarfe discussed how incredible the scene was from top to bottom, and how many people went into selling that scene, and that they all deserved a shout out.
  3. Munoz and King both loved the scene because they were able to observe Overton and Helfer, and learned quite a few lessons on how to act and perform. Munoz described it as a “in-person masterclass” while King said that watching the intensity of Overton, set the bar as a young artist, and that King needed to approach everything with that same intensity.
  4. According to Oakes, getting back into production was hell. They spent 12 weeks preparing how to get back safely.
  5. Garcia has already managed to give King a battle scar from an errant sword strike during a scene.
  6. Shooting in Slovakia was an amazing experience for everyone. Walker talked about the incredible crew and locations they were able to work with, while Helfer talked about how cold the castles were, so she and Munoz would layer up under their costumes with things to keep them warm.
  7. Going back to production was a surreal experience, but everyone is taking it very seriously, with Scarfe not seeing his daughter since she has a job, and Paunovic spending his birthday alone in a chalet he had rented in Whistler.
  8. According to Oakes, there are currently three episodes in the can, and the hope is to return in late fall or early winter for season 5.
  9. While there is nothing official for a spin off, as Oakes says they want to just get through this season, he teases that you can “never say never.”

Van Helsing should be returning to SYFY in late 2020.  Catch the full panel below, and follow @ScreenSpy on Twitter for more Van Helsing scoop.
