THE WALKING DEAD Set to Lighten the Tone With “The Well”

Is Rick Grimes truly broken? Does Maggie have what it takes to be a leader? And if the survivors can’t manage to plunder the Hilltop community of its resources in sufficient time, will Daryl be the next of Negan’s victims?

While there’s no doubt the season premiere saw our favorite characters at their most broken and vulnerable, next Sunday’s “The Well” will lighten the tone by introducing a note hope from an unexpected source.

Showrunner Scott Gimple actually went so far as to suggest fans might find the next episode funny — in comparison to the premiere. Speaking on the AMC after show The Talking Dead, Gimple commented “It is funny. It’s actually funny after the episode you just saw.”

Gimple was of course talking about the introduction of comic book character King Ezekiel who will feature throughout the season ahead.

A new ally in the form of Ezekiel (Khary Payton), and a new well-established community may all seem too good to be true, but it’s what Carol, Morgan, and especially Rick and co. desperately right now.

AMC teases the outlandish and unique Ezekiel as follows: Ezekiel is King. Of the Kingdom. With a tiger. While intellectually curious and majestically grandiose, Ezekiel is not naïve to the violence and atrocities of this world, and truly wants to help others thrive.

The Walking Dead continues Sundays on AMC at 9/8c.

In the meantime, catch new photos from “The Well” along with a promo trailer and sneak peek.
