The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs finally has his next TV gig lined up.

The actor, who played Rick Grimes’ son Carl for 8 seasons on the zombie drama is set to join ABC’s family drama A Million Little Things in a multi-episode arc.

Riggs will play PJ, a young man with a painful past, whose path crosses that of Rome Howard (Romany Malco).

According to a report from TVLine, the encounter “Proves meaningful to both of them in ways each of them doesn’t even fully realize at the time.”

Riggs took to Twitter to announce the news, admitting the post Walking Dead gig was his first in almost a year.

“Four days ago I was almost unemployed for a full year,” the actor said. “Right now i’m sitting on the set of season one of an incredible tv show for my first day of work. Life changes really drastically really quickly.”

Since its move to TGIT’s Thursday night lineup last week, where it now occupies a time slot next to Grey’s Anatomy, A Million Little Things saw a sizable ratings jump.  The freshman drama, focusing on the complicated relationships between a group of friends following the suicide of a close friend, jumped 57% compared with its fall finale, tying its best yet in the all important 18-49 demo, and averaging its best overall audience so far.

In addition to Malco, the series also stars David Giuntoli, Ron Livingston, Allison Miller, Christina Moses, Christina Ochoa, Grace Park, James Roday, Stephanie Szostak, Lizzy Greene and Tristan Byon.

The series is produced by ABC Studios and Kapital Entertainment.

If the ratings remain steady in the new time slot, the show is likely be a shoo-in for a second season renewal.

A Million Little Things airs Thursdays, at 9 pm on ABC.
