Last season’s runaway success story This is Us returns in just a few short weeks for season 2. (The show has already been renewed for a third season, fyi), meaning we all have just enough time to stock up on tissues for what has become the Great Unashamed Tuesday Night Cryfest.
To celebrate the show’s return, a new sneak peek look, containing the first three minutes of season 2, were released by NBC via the show’s official Twitter handle today.
The scene features a heart to heart between Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Mom Rebecca (Mandy Moore). As you may recall, following the death of birth father William (Ron Cephas Jones), Randall made an impulsive decision to adopt a child — a move his wife Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) is now struggling to cope with.
Randall looks to his mother to explain why she chose him, but the answer is more complicated, and more heartfelt than he expected, and features a flashback to to the day of Kevin and Kate’s birth.
Catch the moment in full below.
But what else can fans expect from the season ahead? Show creator Dan Fogelman went on the record earlier this month to say that the premiere will see the Big Three hitting their next birthday landmark.
Meanwhile, in the past, we will see the fallout following Jack and Rebecca’s incendiary fight and separation.
The new season will also see the introduction of Sylvester Stallone, who comes on board as Kevin’s co-star in the Ron Howard wartime film. Meanwhile, That ‘70s Show’s Debra Jo Rupp will play a social worker helping Randall and Beth in their adoption journey.
This Is Us is officially back on Tuesday, September 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
