Sherlock and War Horse Star Benedict Cumberbatch admitted to being hugely excited and very flattered with his upcoming Star Trek role.
Speaking yesterday at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Cumberbatch said, “I’m hugely, hugely excited and I’m very, very flattered. I’m very, very excited, but obviously I’m not here to talk about that. I will, in the future, I’m sure. I’m just getting my head around the fact that it’s happened … my headline is that I’m over the moon.”
Cumberbatch is tipped to play a villain in the next Trek movie, although director/producer JJ Abrams has refused to divulge any information on the role at this point.
However Abrams had high praise for the star. Speaking to Collider recently, the director said: “He’s a genius. Honestly, he’s just an incredible actor. If you’ve seen his work in Sherlock, he’s just got incredible skills. He’s an amazing stage actor. He did amazing work (on stage) in Frankenstein. He’s brilliant. You try to cast people who are great. We got lucky. I just loved his work and thought that he was perfect for what we needed. We were just very lucky.”
