THE FLASH: Ralph Dibny is Here to Stay

Love him or hate him, the irrepressible Elongated Man, aka Ralph Dibny, will become a permanent (if somewhat stretchy) fixture at STAR Labs when The Flash returns for season 5 this fall.
Hartley Sawyer has been upped to series regular.
“We love Hartley, and we love Ralph,” Flash showrunner Todd Helbing told TV Guide, whose parent company, CBS, also owns the CW. “There’s a tremendous amount of Ralph Dibny stories that we haven’t tapped into from the comics yet that we certainly want to do, so it’s going to be great to have him around.”
Sawyer’s Dibny first joined Team Flash as an unlikely and sometimes selfish character who learned how to be a hero over the course of the season — with a lot of help from his friends.
At one juncture, Ralph seemed to die at the hands of evil mastermind The Thinker (Neil Sandilands), but Barry (Grant Gustin) was able to find his consciousness intact within Devoe’s mind, and reverse the Thinker’s possession of his body, returning Ralph to his old self in the finale.
“He’s grown a lot this season,” said Helbing “and I think there’s some more growth to happen with him.”
The Flash returns Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW this fall.
